Supported farm placements are suitable for adults with learning disabilities who are wanting to learn new skills, increase their independence, and work towards person goals. At the farm, we currently offer animal care placements and gardening placements that can be accessed through individual personal payments or referrals through Bristol City Council’s Support Planning team.
Animal care placements
Activities include animal feeding, handling and walking, egg collecting, cleaning pens, giving fresh bedding and much more. These placements provide a great opportunity to get up close to the animals and to work within a safe and supported team.
Gardening placements
Sessions take place in our sheltered garden which has exclusive access to raised beds, a large indoor growing space with seating, and a beautiful timber-built shelter. Activities are creative and mindful and include sowing seeds and growing vegetables and flowers, harvesting produce, light maintenance and natural art.
What else is on offer on a supported farm placement?
- initial goal setting and ongoing 3-month reviews with client and parent (or carer)
- an ongoing log of activity through artwork, journaling, drawings and pictures
- high staff to client ratio
- an inclusive and person-centred approach to working
