To celebrate the first ever #CityFarmDay on Thursday 25th March, we’d like to put our volunteers in the spotlight.
City Farm Day has been created by Social Farms & Gardens to celebrate the important role that city farms have in communities across the UK.
You might know us as a great place for a wander and a treat in the café, but we have many aims and visions for your farm, which go beyond providing a lovely space to relax in. We offer therapy, as well as recreation and our volunteering programmes are a fantastic example of this.
We undertook a study our 217 active volunteers in the year 2019/2020 to explore what they felt they were gaining from volunteering, to measure the impact of volunteering on people’s lives.
We found:
- 92% felt that their mental health and wellbeing has improved
- 85% said that they feel part of our community and are meeting new people
- 81% felt they were making positive changes and progress towards their personal goals
- 78% reported having improved confidence since starting to volunteer
We think these are fantastic outcomes and want to continue to build on these figures.
Having recently been selected to take forward a new vision for Hartcliffe City Farm in partnership with community organisation Heart of BS13, we’ll be able to extend the reach of our volunteering programmes further, bringing benefits to more people’s lives.

If you want to support all the work we do for the community, consider becoming a regular donor – any monthly amount, however small, is a great help to us.
