Learning outside the classroom at Windmill Hill City Farm

Farm and Garden tour

1.5 – 2 hours, £160,
maximum 30 children

This tour is a great way to bring learning outside the classroom with our farm and garden interactive tour. Children will have the chance to meet and feed the animals, to learn about their role on a working farm, to taste seasonal produce in our school’s garden and to explore the wonderful wildlife areas.

You will go to all the different areas of the site and learn about what goes on behind the scenes of a diverse city farm.

Seasonal Visit Programme

Book three or more visits for your class through out the year and receive a 5% discount

Bring learning outside the classroom all year round at our city farm. We encourage schools to make seasonal visits so children can see the changing seasons on a farm as well as the life cycle of some of the animals and plants. We find that this deeply embeds the science they experience over time.

Pick It, Cook It, Eat It

1.5 – 2 hours, £190, maximum 30 children Or can be part of a whole day £300 visit

Children go on a tasting trail around the gardens and harvest seasonal produce. The group then use kitchen tools to prepare the food and are all involved in cooking it. At the end they all get a taste the product of their hard work.

The class will learn about what plants need to grow, the different parts of the plant and about healthy eating. The session will include seeing a farm animal and feeding them if time allows. If you take the day visit there will be a workshop specifically around the animals on the farm as well as the cooking and harvesting.

Mini Beast Madness

1.5 – 2 hours, £160, maximum 30 children

No school pond?

Short of areas for investigating habitats?

Try our Mini Beast Madness workshop and bring learning outside the classroom. Whilst exploring different habitats on the farm, children will take a closer look at the world of mini beasts. We will go on a pond and woodland wandering adventure, looking for and learning about mini beasts.

This workshop includes a farm tour where students will be guided round the site feeding some farm animals and can be part of a full day with a farm and garden tour.

Watt a Waste

1.5 – 2 hours, £160, maximum 30 children Or can be part of a whole day £300 visit

We offer 2 workshops that help students explore how everyday choices affect the environment and how small changes can make a big difference in caring for our planet. The workshops are aimed at Years 6-8.

You can choose to either make a smoothie whilst looking at fruit air miles or use the young peoples energy to create a imagined battery and look at how to reduce energy use. This workshop includes a farm and garden tour where students will see seasonal produce and feed some farm animals. It is possible to do both workshops when taking a full day trip.
