In Part 1, students will learn how to roll slabs of clay and construct a butter dish from scratch. You’ll be guided through choosing your preferred shape, assembling your form, and refining the structure to create a sturdy, well-balanced ceramic butter dish.
.
After a 30–45 minute lunch break, we’ll move into Part 2, focusing on surface decoration. Using paper stencilling and coloured slips, you’ll explore layering techniques to build up texture, pattern, and visual interest. You’ll also design and add a unique handle to your butter dish lid, giving your piece a thoughtful and personal finish.
.
Lunch is not provided, so we recommend bringing a packed lunch or visiting the farm café or nearby local favourites such as Loaf to refuel before the second half of the workshop. Tea, coffee, and biccies are provided throughout the day.

This hands-on pottery and ceramics workshop is perfect for anyone looking to explore slab-building techniques, learn decorative slip methods, and create a beautiful, functional handmade butter dish to cherish at home.
