Tuesday at Windmill Hill City Farm. As we wait for the rest of the group to come outside, a little boy whizzes past us on his tiny bicycle.
He can’t have been older than 4, and he wasn’t even riding with stabilisers! Round he came again, cycling in a little loop with a huge grin.
We cheered and clapped as he rode past us.
I looked around at the clients and they, too, had huge grins on their faces.
Perhaps they remember themselves as children, riding their bikes for the first time. Or maybe the little boy was a reminder of their child, or a grandchild, learning to cycle.
This simple moment, this little boy going about his childish business, brought such joy.
A talking point, a memory-sparker, a theme for reminiscence.
That’s what happens when we take the time to slow down and really take in our surroundings.
